Well, the dried blood certainly doesn't, so what else is it like? He takes the end of each side of the strip in each of his hands and snaps-
That is, tries to snap. As thin as it is, it won't break like the ice it resembles. It doesn't even bend. The edges have cut slightly into his fingers where he held them too close, adding onto the strip.
